An Important COVID-19 Message From Don Verhaeghe
Hello Skippers,

As previously announced, I plan on starting the regatta season on July 11, with the scheduled Victoria regatta. I am also tentatively planning on being at the lake on Saturday, June 27 for some practice sailing since my boats are needing to get wet. I will let everyone know by mid-next week if for some reason I will not be able to make the practice session.

A fellow skipper reached out and made some important points about renewed racing at the lake: The way we typically set up our courses will result in all but one person being downwind from the others. Even though we are outside, we will be stationary for long periods of time and only about 6' apart. And almost everyone in our club could be considered at-risk.

I checked the AMYA web site and saw that AMYA-sanctioned regattas are canceled at least through August 20, 2020*. They are imploring local clubs to stay as safe as possible. Therefore, I have changed the rules to say we should all wear masks or face coverings while at the lake. I know it's kind of a pain, but it's a small price to pay to begin sailing and to keep our fellow skippers as safe as possible. The updated rules have been uploaded to our website as a PDF file that can be viewed by clicking this link: HLMYC Rules For Sailing During COVID-19 Pandemic.

I also want to thank everyone for their support over these last few months. It's been a difficult time to chart the club's way through this, and your support is sincerely appreciated. I hope we will be able to get past this pandemic in a timely manner and back to sailing the way we used to!
Sincerely,
Don
*These cancellations now include the ODOM NCR previously scheduled to be hosted by HLMYC on September 18, 19 & 20.
